In the field, low oil level events are occurring in cold ambient temperatures at start-up. The events occur with the oil level between running full and running add. After starting the engine, the oil level drops below the low oil level switch. This drop activates a warning after 10 to 30 seconds. As the oil warms up and becomes less viscous, the oil level rises above the add switch after two or more minutes. If an E171-3 event occurs, the engine will shut down. The shutdown occurs when the machine is idling in park and the oil level is below the switch level. This problem occurs with VIMS software part numbers 335-9421 Monitor Software Gp and 344-5523 Monitor Software Gp .Solution
Adding an additional 10 L (2.64 US gal) of oil may resolve this issue and in turn will shut off the alarm.If the additional oil did not resolve the low oil levels warnings. Ask your Technical Communicator to contact the Dealer Solution Network (DSN): attention Quarry and Construction Truck product support in order to replace the new VIMS softwareThere are two changes in the VIMS software:
E171-1 Warning, Low Oil Level event start-up delay time changed from ten seconds to five minutes. This step will prevent a cold start-up event.
E171-3 Shutdown. Low Oil Level event, and corresponding engine shutdown have been removed, as the engine shutdown is not appropriate for the current switch location.
