Remove the putty from the carrier. Weigh the putty to determine the amount of material to be removed. From the putty, locate the opposite side of the carrier and drill a balance hole. Refer to Table 8 and Illustration 39 through Illustration 41 for tolerances and balance hole locations.

(1) The carrier must be balanced within the specifications (L) which are given in (oz/in).
(2) Drill balance holes in the face opposite the spline. Holes must not be closer than 3.0 mm (0.12 inch) to the edge. Do not drill on thrust pads. Do not drill on the edges of the posts that are between the decks.
(3) This is a through drilled hole.
(4) 38.1 mm (1.50 inch) maximum depth is for the rib with cross-drilled oil hole. The maximum depth that is permitted in the other two ribs is 100 mm (3.9 inch).
(5) The distance between balance holes must be at least 19.0 mm (0.75 inch).
Once the balance holes are drilled, repeat Step 4 to make sure that the carrier is balanced according to specification (L) which is shown in Table 8.
Remove any sharp edges and clean any filings from the carrier.
