Connections of the winch main pressure solenoid
This diagnostic code is associated with the winch main pressure solenoid. This solenoid is also known as the winch system flow solenoid. The FMI 05 means that the ECM has determined that an open in the circuit exists. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
The energize circuit of the solenoid is open.
The return circuit of the solenoid is open.
The solenoid has failed.
The ECM has failed. An ECM failure is unlikely.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 3747 - FMI 05 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. Check the solenoid
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Disconnect the winch solenoid bulkhead from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the winch solenoid bulkhead, place a jumper wire from contact "6" wire (K854-OR(Orange)) to contact "6" wire (H868-WH(White)).
Observe the status of the diagnostic code. Expected Result:The diagnostic code remains active. Then, the diagnostic code changes from FMI 05 to FMI 06 after the jumper wire is installed. Results:
YES - The diagnostic code remains active. The jumper wire does not affect the diagnostic code. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The diagnostic is no longer active. The problem is inside the winch.Repair: Troubleshoot the components inside the winch. Refer to SENR8463.STOPTest Step 2. Check the harness for an open
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors from the ECM.
The jumper wire that was installed in the previous test remains in place.
At the machine harness connector, measure the resistance from signal contact J2-5 wire (K854-OR(Orange)) to contact J2-8 wire (H868-WH(White)). Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5 ohms. Results:
YES - The resistance is less than 5 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NO - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The resistance measurement is not correct. There is an open circuit in the machine harness.Repair: The open is in wire (K854-OR(Orange)) or in wire (H868-WH(White)) of the machine harness. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. Check the operation of the ecmThe disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position. The machine harness connector for the solenoid and the ECM connectors remain disconnected.
Remove the jumper wire that was installed in the last test step.
At the J2 connector for the ECM, use a wire removal tool to remove wire (K854-OR(Orange)) from contact J2-5.
Reconnect the machine harness connectors to the ECM.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Use a multimeter probe to make a connection with the ECM at contact J2-5 through the empty space in the J2 connector.
Observe the status of the diagnostic code. Ground the other end of
