Information:
Start By:a. remove rear axle group1. Drain the oil from the rear axle group. To disassemble the rear differential, remove only the left side axle housing.2. Fasten tooling (A) and a hoist to the rear axle group as shown. 3. Remove four of eleven bolts (2). Put the rear axle group in position on tooling (B) with left side rear axle housing (1) up. Bolt tooling (B) to the rear axle group using the four bolt holes as shown. 4. Fasten tooling (A) and a hoist to rear axle housing (1). Remove two bolts (3) and retainer (4). Remove eleven bolts (5) and separate rear axle housing (1) from the rear differential. Weight of the rear axle housing is 227 kg (500 lb). 5. Fasten rear differential assembly (7) to a hoist and remove the rear differential assembly from rear differential housing (6). Weight of the rear differential assembly is 41 kg (90 lb). 6. Put the differential assembly in a press. Apply pressure on coupling (9) to compress spring (10) and remove retainer ring (8). Slowly release the pressure until the spring force against the coupling has been relieved.7. Remove washer (11), coupling (9), spring (10) and adapter (12) from the rear differential assembly. 8. Use tooling (C) and remove roller bearing cone (13) from the differential gear case. 9. Use tooling (D) and remove roller bearing cone (14) from the differential gear case. 10. Put an identification mark on differential gear case halves (15) and (16) for assembly purposes.11. Remove eight bolts (17) and separate differential gear case halves (15) and (16). 12. If necessary, remove bushing (18) from differential gear case half (15). 13. Remove side gear (19). Remove thrust washer (20) from the side gear.14. Remove spider assembly (21) from differential gear case half (16). 15. Remove four washers (23) and four gears (22) from spider (21). 16. Remove side gear (24) and washer (25) from differential gear case half (16).17. If necessary, remove bushing (28) from differential gear case half (16). Check the ring gear and the pinion shaft for wear. The ring gear and the pinion shaft are a matched set. If either part is worn, a replacement of both parts must be made.18. If ring gear (27) is to be removed, remove the ring gear as follows: a. Center punch either end of retaining rivets (26). Be sure the hole is punched as near the center of the rivets as possible.b. Use a 12.7 mm (.50 in) drill, and drill into the rivet until the head end of the rivet breaks free from the rivet shank.c. Use a suitable punch, and remove the remainder of the rivets.19. Check differential gear case halves (15) and (16) for wear or score marks. If the parts are worn or scored, use new parts for replacement. 20. Use tooling (E) and remove roller bearing cup (29) from the rear differential housing. The following steps are for the assembly of the rear differential.21. Lower the temperature
