Process to Check and Tighten the Split-nut
Illustration 1 g03428539
The thread should be able to rotate by turning the split-nut guard by hand. (1) Split-nut guard
Illustration 2 g03428544
The thread should not be able to rotate by turning the hex-ball by hand. (2) Hex-ball
Check thread assembly tightness.
If the thread cannot be turned by hand using the split-nut guard, go to Step 2.
If the thread rotates by turning the hex-ball by hand, go to Step 2
If the thread can be turned by hand using the split-nut guard, but cannot be turned by hand using the hex-ball, then the coupler is correctly adjusted. No further adjustment is necessary.
Illustration 3 g03429225
First, extend the wedge 1 or 2 turns to ensure that the hex-ball thread is not bottomed out in the female thread in the wedge. Turn either the split-nut guard or the hex-ball thread clockwise to extend the wedge. Use a 22 mm ratchet spanner if required.
Loosen both M6 cap screws so that the split-nut guard is free to rotate on the thread.
Illustration 4 g03428859
To start adjusting the thread fitment, back off the split-nut guard by holding the hex-ball thread. Simultaneously turn the split-nut guard counter-clockwise 2 full turns, when looking at the hex-ball.

"Du" washer must sit on this shoulder to ensure that assembly is adjusted properly
Ensure that the second "Du" washer is seated correctly on the shoulder of the male thread. Rotate the split-nut guard towards the front housing until the assembly is lightly tightened against the housing.
Illustration 6 g03428859
Next, set the correct fitment by rotating the split-nut guard counter clockwise until the guard just becomes tight against the washers. Then back off again approximately 1/10th to 1/6th of a turn. This adjustment must be done by feel. Refer to Illustration 6.
Illustration 7 g03428917
Without moving the thread assembly carefully pre-tighten the M6 screws with the hex key. Alternate between the two screws to ensure even tightening. Refer to Illustration 7.
Illustration 8 g03428956
Tighten the cap screws of the split-nut guard to 18 N m (13 lb ft) with a torque wrench. Ensure that the screws are tightened evenly. Correct adjustment of the assembly must be maintained once the screws are torqued.
Return to Step 1 and determine if the quick coupler is adjusted correctly.
