(1) Offset cylinder and valve (2) Steering metering pump (3) Hydraulic tank and strainer (4) Wheel tilt relief valve (5) Wheel tilt cylinder (6) Wheel tilt solenoid valve (7) Charge filter (8) Gear pump (9) Steering hydraulic cylinderThe steering system has several functions: steering the machine, providing charge oil for the vibratory circuit, providing charge oil for the propel circuit, offsetting the machine and wheel tilt.
Illustration 2 g00674840
Hydraulic Oil TankThe hydraulic tank (3) provides oil for all hydraulic systems on the machine. The hydraulic tank is located behind the operator platform.
Illustration 3 g00674838
Gear PumpThe gear pump (8) draws oil through the strainer in the hydraulic tank (3). The gear pump is driven by the accessory drive group on the front of the engine. The pump contains two sections. The charge pump section is bolted to the engine. The steering pump section is coupled to the charge pump section.
Illustration 4 g00674841
Steering Metering PumpOil flows from the steering section of the gear pump (8) to the steering metering pump (2). The steering metering pump is located beneath the instrument panel at the bottom of the steering column.
Illustration 5 g00675022
Steering CylinderWhen the steering wheel is turned, the metering pump (2) sends oil to one end of each steering cylinder (9). The steering cylinders articulate the machine.
Illustration 6 g00675109
Wheel Tilt Relief ValveSome oil flows over a relief valve in the steering metering pump (2). The wheel tilt relief valve (4) regulates the pressure of the oil. The setting of the relief valve (4) determines the down force on the center rear tire.
Illustration 7 g00675159
Wheel Tilt Solenoid ValveThe regulated oil flows from the relief valve (4) to the wheel tilt solenoid valve (6). The wheel tilt solenoid valve (6) is a two-position valve.
Illustration 8 g00675261
Wheel Tilt Hydraulic CylinderThe wheel tilt hydraulic cylinder (5) provides down force on the center tire. The head end of the cylinder contains a check valve and an orifice. The check valve and the orifice cause the center wheel to raise quickly. The check valve and the orifice cause the center wheel to lower slowly.
Illustration 9 g00674839
Offset Cylinder and Offset ValveFrom the charge pump section of the gear pump (8), oil flows to the offset valve and offset cylinder (1). The offset valve contains a pressure relief valve, a variable orifice, and a three-position solenoid valve. The solenoid valve is spring centered in a closed position. The solenoids are energized in order to offset the drum to the right or to the left of the rear tires.
Illustration 10 g00675398
Charge Oil FilterOil flows over the relief valve in the offset valve and cylinder (1). the oil flows from the relief valve to the charge oil filter (7). The charge oil filter cleans the oil before the oil flows to the propel circuit and to the vibratory circuit.
