Start By:a. remove recoil springs and hydraulic track adjusters as a unit. 1. Remove cylinder (1) from front pilot (2).
The spring in the recoil spring assembly is assembled under a force of several tons. Do not put the recoil spring under compression or release the tension with the nut for the recoil spring bolt. Damaged threads on the recoil spring bolt or nut can cause the assembly to come apart and cause bodily injury.
(225B Shown)2. Disassemble the spring with tooling (A) as follows:a. Fasten a hoist to the spring. Put the spring in position between plates (3) and (4). Put the centers of pilots (2) and (7) in alignment with the centers of plates (3) and (4). Operate the hydraulic cylinder enough to hold the spring in place.b. Make an adjustment to nuts (5) so the distance between plates (3) and (4) is the same at each of the three legs (8).c. Turn nuts (6) until there is 25.4 mm (1.0 in.) between nuts (5) and plate (9).
The distance between the plates must be the same at each leg at all times so the spring will not twist and come out of tooling (A).
d. Put the spring under enough compression to remove nut (10). Remove the nut.e. Slowly release the compression on the spring.f. Turn nuts (6) and move plate (9) and the cylinder away from the spring. Put the
