Separate the hydraulic rotator from the lower housing. Refer to Service Manual, "Hydraulic Rotator and Shear Housing - Separate".

Install Tooling (A) (two link brackets), appropriate lifting chains, and a hoist to upper housing (1). Lift the assembly and rest the assembly on a block. Remove the lifting chains and the hoist from the link brackets. Install Tooling (A), appropriate lifting chains, and a hoist to gear and bearing (2). Rotate the hydraulic rotator so that the gear and bearing is facing upward. Install blocks beneath the upper housing in order to level the gear and bearing.

Disconnect hydraulic hose (3) from gear and bearing (2). Remove the fitting, the seal, and the O-ring seal from the gear and bearing.

Note: Note the location of the lubrication hole for assembly purposes.
Separate each link bracket by 180 degrees, as shown. Loosen the 34 bolts and the washers that secure gear and bearing (2) to upper housing (1). Lift the gear and bearing from the upper housing. The weight of the gear and bearing is 110 kg (243 lb). Remove Tooling (A) from the gear and bearing.Installation Procedure
Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Install Tooling (A), appropriate lifting chains, and a hoist to gear and bearing (2). The weight of the gear and bearing is 110 kg (243 lb). Place the gear and bearing into position in upper housing (1). Apply 155-0695 Thread Lock Compound to the 34 bolts that secure the gear and bearing to the upper housing. Install the 34 bolts and the washers. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 270 40 N m (199 30 lb ft). Tighten the bolts in a star pattern.

Install the seal and the O-ring seal to the fitting for hydraulic hose (3). Connect the hose to gear and bearing (2) .

Lift the assembly and support the assembly on a block. Remove Tooling (A) from the gear and bearing. Lift the upper housing off the block and place the assembly on a clean, solid surface. Remove Tooling (A) from the upper housing.

Lubricate the gear and bearing with clean grease. Two grease fittings for the gear and bearing are located on the upper housing near the gerotor motor.End By: Connect the hydraulic rotator to the lower housing. Refer to Service Manual, "Hydraulic Rotator and Shear Housing - Connect".
