Event Codes
J1939 Codes and Description    Conditions which Generate this Code    System Response
95-15 Engine Fuel Filter Differential Pressure : High - least severe (1)     For the secondary fuel filters, the difference between the filtered fuel pressure and the unfiltered fuel pressure is greater than the trip point pressure.     The code is logged.
95-16 Engine Fuel Filter Differential Pressure : High - moderate severity (2)
1382-15 Engine Fuel Filter (suction side) Differential Pressure : High - least severe (1)     For the primary fuel filters, the difference between the filtered fuel pressure and the unfiltered fuel pressure is greater than the trip point pressure.     The code is logged.    Probable Causes

Note: The procedures have been listed in order of probability. Complete the procedures in the order of the listed test steps.
Table 2
Troubleshooting Test Step    Value    Result
1. Check for Codes
A. Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Service Tools", if necessary.
B. Download the "Product Status Report" from the engine ECM before performing any troubleshooting or clearing diagnostic trouble codes.
C. Determine if the diagnostic trouble code that directed to this procedure is present.
D. Look for active diagnostic codes that are associated with the system for the event code that directed to this procedure.

95
1382

Result: An associated code is present.
Repair: Troubleshoot any associated codes before continuing with this test.
Result: A 95 or 1382 code is present.
Proceed to the next step.
Result: No active codes
STOP

2. Replace the Fuel Filter
A. Replace the appropriate fuel filter elements for the code.
B. Prime the fuel system. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for information.
C. Restart the engine and check for an active event code for the filter that was changed.

Filter

Result: After starting the engine, the event code is no longer active for the filter that was changed.
STOP
Result: After starting the engine, the event code remained active for the filter that was changed
Proceed to the next step.

3. Check the Fuel Pressure Sensors
A. Use Cat ET to compare the values for the following parameters while the engine is OFF:
- Unfiltered Fuel Pressure (abs)
- Filtered Fuel Pressure (abs)
Both parameters should read atmospheric pressure.

Parameter
value

Result: A sensor does not read atmospheric pressure while the engine is off.
Repair: Troubleshoot the sensor circuit.
Proceed to the next step.

4. Inspect Sensor Circuit Components
A. Inspect the sensor, wiring, and connectors for damage and corrosion. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for information that is related to intermittent electrical problems.

Circuit
problem

Result: A circuit component is damaged or corroded.
Repair: Repair or replace the circuit component.
Result: A circuit component is not damaged or corroded.
Repair: Replace the sensor.
