Component Code: 1907Subject: Do Not Replace Speed Sensors Because of Visible Oil Leaks
PROBLEM:
Warranty and SIMS reports indicate that 119-4142 Speed Sensors and 169-3300 Speed Sensors have been replaced for visible oil leaks found at the speed sensor mounting locations. Failure analysis of the 119-4142 Speed Sensors and 169-3300 Speed Sensors has determined that these speed sensors are not the root cause of the oil leaks.
The following problems can cause oil leaks:
The speed sensor assembly is not fully seated.
One or more of the speed sensor O-rings are not installed properly.
One or more of the speed sensor O-rings are damaged.
Following a speed sensor installation (initial or replacement), there may be oil surrounding the sensor. Oil is used to lubricate the speed sensor during installation. After the sensor has been installed, there may be residual oil around the sensor. This residual oil should not be confused with an oil leak.
SOLUTION:
Replacement of speed sensors for oil leaks is not recommended. Instead, determine if any of the above-listed conditions exist. If any of the above-listed conditions are found, resolve accordingly.
