Remove the nut (2) and washer from the lower pin in the swing casting (1). Tap the pin downwards with a copper mallet. The pin will fall out of the bore from the bottom below the machine.

Inspect the tapered surface of the old pin and the tapered surface in the swing casting. If the nut on the pin was found loose this may indicate that the joint had worn and may have a damaged taper in the swing casting.
If the bore in the swing casting is heavily scored, then stop. Take digital photographs of the worn surface and send them to your Dealer Technical Communicator.
See Image 1.3.1. The bore in this image showed signs of galling from the pin turning in the bore. This bore is not acceptable for re-use.

Please send details and digital images of bore / pin to Caterpillar via the DSN. The Tier II engineers at Caterpillar will provide the information that is necessary to complete the repairs.

Clean the bore and the new 300-5440 pin. The bore and pin must be cleaned with a degreaser to remove grease and protective coatings. The bore of the swing casting and the taper of the new pin must be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol prior to assembly.
Apply 195-3998 High Strength Threadlock to the threads of the pin prior to installing the 8T-3652 Nut and the 8T-4837 Washer.
Tighten the lower swing frame pin nut to a torque of 1250 +/- 135 Nm (922 +/- 100 lb ft).
With the new hardware fitted, start the machine and remove the swing lock pin.
To ensure the tapered pin is seated correctly, the rear hoe must be worked for short while and then the nut re-torqued. This procedure must be carried out within 1 hour of the initial torque so that the threadlock has not started to set.
The following procedure should be followed:
1. Lift the boom and stick off the ground. Cycle the swing cylinders 10 times without hitting the swing casting stops.
2. Cycle the stick cylinder in and out 10 times.
3. Cycle the boom cylinder in and out 10 times. Cycle the boom cylinder through the snubbler when raising the boom.
Re-install the swing lock pin. Lower the implements to the ground and stop the engine.
Re-tighten the lower swing frame pin to a torque of 1250 +/- 135 Nm (922 +/- 100 lb ft).
The swing frame lock pin MUST be installed while applying the torque to the nut.
******* ADDING THE CAPTURE PLATE *******
Clean the area around the bottom of the swing casting (3) to remove all debris.
The threaded bolt hole (4) needs to be cleaned out to remove any grease and debris. A thread tap may be needed to do this. The size of the thread is M10 x 1.5
Apply 185-3998 High Strength Thread lock to the threads of the 8T-4182 Retaining Bolt prior to assembly.
Mount capture plate (5) to the bottom of the swing casting with the 8T-4182 Bolt and 8T-4121 Washer (6). Tighten the
