Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: The installation procedures for the front axle shafts and for the rear axle shafts are identical.

Use a suitable lifting device in order to position axle shaft (6) into the final drive. The weight of axle shaft (6) is approximately 107 kg (235 lb).
Remove the suitable lifting device.
Slide Tooling (E) over the end of axle shaft (6), as shown.
Use Tooling (E) in order to guide axle shaft (6) into the splines of the service brake and the splines of the differential.
Remove Tooling (E).

Place spacer (9) and sun gear (8) on the end of axle shaft (6).
Align the sun gear with the planetary gears and slide the sun gear completely onto the axle shaft. Install retaining ring (7). Note: It may be necessary to rotate the wheel assembly in order to align the sun gear with the planetary gears. If the axle assembly and the tires are still installed on the machine, the tire must be raised off the ground in order to rotate the wheel assembly.

Install axle shaft spacer (5) and bolts (4) to the back of cover (2).

Install a new O-ring seal (3) in the groove of the final drive assembly.

Use Tooling (A) in order to install cover (2). The weight of cover (2) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb).

Install cover (2) and bolts (1).
Remove Tooling (A).

Install final bolt (1). The torque for bolts (1) is 135 20 N m (100 15 lb ft).
Install the drain plug into the final drive.
Fill the axle housing and the final drives with oil. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil - Change". End By:
Disconnect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
