Information:
Note: Table 1 refers to the diagnostic codes for the power train ECM only. When the GEN III Display is in service mode, the diagnostic codes for the power train ECM are shown on the display area of the GEN III Display. The information of the diagnostic code for the power train ECM is transferred via the Cat Data Link to the GEN III Display. This diagnostic information is shown when the GEN III Display is in the service mode. The module identifier (MID) tells the service person the ECM that is sending the diagnostic code. The MID for the power train ECM is 081. The information in Table 1 only refers to diagnostic codes with a MID of 081. The MID of other electronic control modules or components on a particular machine are listed on the electrical system schematic. Troubleshooting information for the diagnostic codes with a MID that is not 081 can be found in the service manual for that system.Failure Mode Identifier (FMI) Codes

Data valid but below normal operational range
    Data erratic, intermittent, or incorrect
Voltage above normal or shorted high
Voltage below normal or shorted low
Current below normal or open circuit
Current above normal or grounded circuit
Abnormal frequency, pulse width, or period
    Abnormal update
    Abnormal rate of change
    Failure mode not identifiable
    Bad device or component
    Out of calibration
Special Instruction    FMI 00 - Data valid but above normal operational rangeEvery electronic control system sets a high limit for the expected operating range of a signal. The limit includes ranges such as high converter temperatures. A sensor that is still functioning but sending a signal above the expected limit will cause the FMI 00 code to be stored.Example - A pulse width modulated sensor is not expected to generate a valid signal over 80 percent of the duty cycle. A sensor could generate a signal that is above 80 percent. The sensor is still functioning but the signal is now above the expected signal limit.FMI 01 - Data valid but below normal operational rangeEvery electronic control system sets a low limit for the expected operating range of a signal. The limit includes ranges such as low engine oil pressure. A sensor that is still functioning but sending a signal below the expected limit will cause an FMI01 to be stored.Example - Most pulse width modulated sensors are not expected to generate a valid signal that is less than 5 percent of the duty cycle. A sensor could generate a signal that is below 5 percent. The sensor is still functioning but the signal is now above the expected signal limit.FMI 02 - Data erratic, intermittent, or incorrect.FMI
