If the cylinder head is replaced due to excessive saddle fretting, the cylinder head is to be claimed as ?contingent? damage against this service support program, and returned to the following address for disposition. If a cylinder head is returned that does not fit the guideline for replacement, the cylinder head will be returned to the repairing dealer and the claim will be debited.

Rework Procedure
The existing 233-3672 Cat Brake Studs can fail in certain 735 and 740 Articulated Trucks. In the event that a failure occurs with a 233-3672 Brake Stud, currently used on the B1N/735, B1R/740 or B1P/740 Trucks, all (9) of the 233-3672 Brake Studs are to be replaced with the improved strength 288-4109 Cat Brake Stud. For proper ?Disassembly & Assembly? of the Cat Brake, and Valve Mechanism, Rocker Shafts, please refer to the following Publications in SIS Web. (SENR9832-06 Testing & Adjusting Finding Top Dead Center Position for #1 Piston), (SENR9832-06 Testing, Adjusting, & Setting Electronic Unit Injectors), (SENR9832-06 Testing & Adjusting Engine Valve Lash ?Intake/Exhaust?), and (SENR9832-06 Testing & Adjusting Cat Compression Brake Lash).
Note: It is important that during the installation of the 288-4109 Cat Brake Studs, that the engine is in the proper position (Top Dead Center & 180 Degrees out) so the Intake/Exhaust Valves, Injector Rocker Arms, and Cat Brakes are properly adjusted and set.
Note: During the rework process it is important to inspect the 6I-0901 Rocker Arm Shafts, for any signs of ?fretting? wear, damage etc. and for any signs of hole misalignment of the rocker shaft stud mounting holes. If damage is found to the shaft, or if fretting or damage is found with any of the (4) through bolt/stud mounting holes, the shaft is to be replaced, and reported against this service letter as ?contingent? damage.
Along with the inspection of the 6I-0901 Rocker Shaft for ?fretting? it is also important to inspect the Rocker Shaft Saddle?s in the 233-7263 cylinder head for premature ?wear and fretting?. If signs of fretting to the rocker shaft saddles appear to be excessive, please refer to the following guidelines and instructions for inspection of the cylinder head rocker shaft saddles.
