Modification To 5U6359 Radiator Infill Assembly
1. Fabricate plate (A) using the dimensions shown in Illustration 1. Use 6 mm (.2") thick steel plate with a minimum yield strength of 255 MPa (40,000 psi) and a minimum tensile strength of 430 MPa (62,700 psi).
Illustration 1. Dimensions for plate (A).2. Inspect the infill assembly and weld repair any cracks.3. Weld the plate in position as shown in Illustration 2. Make sure that the holes in the plate line up with the holes in the infill assembly before welding the plate in position. Use weld beads 25 mm (1.0") long with 30 mm (1.2") spacing between each bead.
Illustration 2. Assemble plate (A) to radiator infill assembly.4. Clean up weld spatter and paint the modified area.Modification To 5U8299 Hood Support Assembly
1. Fabricate gusset (B) using the dimensions shown in Illustration 3. Use 3 mm (.12") thick steel plate with a minimum yield strength of 255 MPa (40,000 psi) and a minimum tensile strength of 430 MPa (62,700 psi).
Illustration 4. Dimensions for bracket (C). All horizontal dimensions are taken from line B-B. All vertical dimensions are taken from line A-A.
Illustration 3. Dimensions for Gusset (B).2. Fabricate bracket (C) using dimensions shown in Illustration 4. Use 8 mm (.3") thick steel plate with a minimum yield strength of 255 MPa (40,000 psi) and a minimum tensile strength of 430 MPa (62,700 psi). Bracket (C) can be made from the existing mounting bracket for the transmission oil filter if it can be removed without damage.3. Remove the mounting bracket for the transmission oil filter and grind the area clean.4. Inspect the hood support assembly and weld repair any cracks.5. Weld gusset (B) as shown in Illustration 5. Use the three holes marked (X) to plug weld the gusset to the front face of the hood support assembly.
Illustration 5. Assemble gusset and bracket to hood support assembly.6. Weld bracket (C) as shown in Illustration 5. Use intermittent welds on the top and back edge with 75 mm (3.0") beads with 50 mm (2.0") spacing on one side and 50 mm (2.0") beads with 75 mm (3.0") spacing on the other side. Use the four holes marked (Y) to plug weld the mounting bracket to the front face of the hood support assembly.7. Remove weld spatter and paint the new area.
