15. Lift up housing (25), and remove outer bearing race (23).16. Use a soft faced hammer, and remove bearing (24) from the housing.17. Remove the retaining ring from bearing (24) with tool (D). 18. Remove retaining ring (26) from carrier (27). 19. Turn the assembly over, and place it on two blocks of wood as shown.20. Install retainer (28) and bolt (31) that were removed in Step 11 on the shaft assembly. The hole in retainer (28) must be aligned with the pin in the end of the shaft assembly. For easier disassembly, lift up on the turbine wheel while the shaft is tapped down with a soft faced hammer.21. Use a soft faced hammer, and tap the shaft down to provide approximately 6.4 mm (.25 in.) clearance between inner bearing race (29) and turbine wheel (30).22. Using two crow foot bars, remove inner bearing race (29) as shown.23. Remove turbine wheel (30) from the shaft assembly. 24. Remove retaining ring (32) from the shaft assembly with tool (D). 25. Use a soft faced hammer, and tap shaft assembly (33) down to free it from carrier (34). Remove the shaft assembly from the carrier and wheel assembly. 26. Remove seal ring (35) from shaft (33). 27. Remove retaining ring (36) from shaft (33) with tool (D). 28. Use tool (B) and a press to push shaft (33) from bearing (37). 29. Remove six bolts (39), two plates (40) and wheel assembly (38) from the carrier. 30. Remove impeller assembly (41) from carrier (34). 31. Remove bolts (43), two plates (44) and impeller (42) from the gear. 32. Remove plate (45) from gear (46). 33. Use tool (C) and a press to remove the bearing from the gear.34. Remove pins (47) from gear (46) if necessary. 35. Remove sleeve (49) from carrier (34).36. Check pins (48) in the carrier for wear or damage. If necessary, replace the pins.Assemble Torque Converter
1. Install pins (3) in carrier (1) if it was necessary to replace them. Make sure the tab on sleeve (2) is aligned with the notch (groove) in the bore of carrier (1).2. Install sleeve (2) in carrier (1). 3. Install the bearing in gear (5) with tooling (A) and a press. The bearing must not extend beyond surface (X).4. If pins (4) were removed, install the pins until they are 11.0 0.5 mm (0.43 0.02 in.) above surface (X). Make sure plate (6) is installed with the side that has the machined step on the ouside diameter toward gear (5).5. Install plate (6) on gear (5) with two larger holes aligned with pins (4) in gear (5). 6. Install impeller (8) on plate (6) with the two larger holes around the inside diameter aligned with pins (4) in gear (5).7. Use a tapered punch (7) to put the bolt holes on the
