The hub is splined onto spindle (4). Spindle (4) is bolted to the axle housing. Ring gear (2) is held stationary.Gears (8) are mounted upon planetary carrier (3) which is bolted to wheel (1). Sun gear (6) is splined to axle shaft (5) .Drive comes to sun gear (6) through axle shaft (5). Ring gear (2) is held stationary, so the planetary carrier is driven in the same direction as the sun gear at a reduced speed. The carrier is bolted to the wheel and the wheel rotates on bearings (9) .The final drive is lubricated by oil from the axle. Seals (10) allow the oil to be sealed in the final drive and the axle.
