Failure of the 177-1941 Springs that are used with the 72" and 84" Angle Blades for Skid Steer Loaders have been reported. Some of the reported failures are for work tools being delivered to dealerships. The springs are breaking at the transition area between the coils of the spring and the hook on the ends of the spring.Solution:
Preliminary findings have identified microscopic cracks in the failed springs that could be the result of a reaction to chemicals in the cleaning bath that is utilized in the painting process. Investigations are continuing in order to identify the root cause of this problem.The action that is recommended at this time is to replace failed springs with springs that are available from Morton through the normal parts system. The springs that are available from Morton are unpainted and therefore, have not been exposed to the suspect chemicals in the cleaning bath. Each blade assembly uses four (4) of the 177-1941 Springs. The demand for these springs has increased sharply and is anticipated to further increase until a solution can be affected.
