The Engine Monitoring System is not a guarantee against catastrophic failures. Programmed delays and derate schedules are designed to minimize false alarms and provide time for the operator to stop the engine.
The engine monitoring system monitors the following parameters:
Coolant temperature
Cooling system level (if equipped)
Oil pressure
Oil temperature
Inlet manifold air temperature (if equipped)
Fuel pressure

The engine can be programmed to the following modes:
Warning
Warning/Derate"Warning"
The "DIAGNOSTIC" lamp and the warning signal (red lamp or buzzer) turn "ON" and the warning signal is activated continuously in order to alert the operator that one or more of the engine parameters is not within normal operating range."Warning/Derate"
The "DIAGNOSTIC" lamp flashes a code, and the warning signal (red lamp or buzzer) is activated.When the following events occur, the derate mode begins by flashing the "" lamp.
Low oil pressure
Low coolant level
High coolant temperatureTherefore, when the "" lamp is flashing, the ECM is limiting or derating the engine power. This derating of engine power is provided in order to alert the operator.
