Engine 3500 and G3500 EnginesProblem
A portion of the 7N-2326 Lifting Eyes manufactured since May 2017 do not meet print specification. The lifting pin holes could have been machined oversized. The oversized holes can allow the press fit pin to slide out of position.
Please note that an out of position lifting bracket pin may result in a reduced lifting ability and may, in conjunction with other factors or circumstances, result in a risk of personal injury or death.

Solution
There are two different inspection procedures documented below to identify suspect lifting eyes. One will apply to 7N-2326 Lifting Eyes in dealer inventory and the second procedure will apply to parts that already have the pin pressed into the lifting eye.Procedure 1
Inspect dealer inventory of 7N-2326 Lifting Eyes if any were purchased from May 2017 to August 2017.Measure the inside diameter for the pin to ensure that the diameter meets a print specification of 25.367 +/- 0.020 mm.Procedure 2
Inspect dealer inventory of 150-7972 Lifting Eye Assembly if any were purchased from May 2017 to August 2017.For Caterpillar factory built engines, inspect all 3500 engines that are equipped with 7N-2326 Lifting Eyes and have build dates from June 3, 2017 to August 2, 2017.Dealer built engines with 7N-2326 Lifting Eyes should also be inspected if the lifting eye used was purchased out of the parts system from May 2017 to August 2017.
Ensure that the pin is properly centered in the lifting eye.

Use a punch and hammer to tap the pin that is pressed into the lifting eye.Note: Refer to Illustration 2 for an example of the 386-3351 16 ounce ball peen hammer, that is recommended for use. Limit travel of the hammer head to ~150mm to 200mm (~6 to 8 inches) when tapping the pin.

If the pin moves relative to the 7N-2326 Lifting Eye, replace the 7N-2326 Lifting Eye.Note: The lifting eye pin will slide slightly (~3mm) back and forth with relation to the lower bracket.Note: Experience to date shows that pins move with minimal force in suspect lifting eyes.Contact the DSN if any issues arise during the inspection.
