To prevent possible injury, hold the final drive planetary carrier assembly level when it is being removed and installed. The planetary gears and shafts can fall out of the planetary carrier if the unit is not held level during removal and installation.
1. Remove 22 bolts (1) and the washers that hold the final drive planetary carrier assembly to the wheel assembly. 2. Fasten a hoist to final drive planetary carrier assembly (2), and remove it from the hub. The weight of the final drive planetary carrier assembly is approximately 150 kg (330 lb).3. Remove the O-ring seal from the final drive planetary carrier assembly. The following steps are for installation of the final drive planetary carrier assemblies.4. Check the condition of the O-ring seal used on the final drive planetary carrier assembly. If the seal is damaged, use a new part for replacement. Install the O-ring seal on the final drive planetary carrier assembly. 5. Fasten a hoist to final drive planetary carrier assembly (2). Install the gear end of the drive axle shaft into the final drive planetary carrier assembly as shown. The drive axle shaft is used to hold the final drive planetary carrier assembly level and to help put the planetary gears in the carrier assembly in alignment with the hub.6. Put the final drive planetary carrier assembly in position in the hub. Remove the drive axle shaft and the hoist,7. Install the 22 washers and bolts (1) that hold the final drive planetary carrier assembly in position.8. Be sure the flats on the three planetary shafts in the final drive planetary carrier assembly are facing toward the outside of the carrier. If the flats are in the wrong position, the cover for the final drive cannot be installed.End By:a. install drive axle shaftsDisassemble & Assemble Final Drive Planetary Carriers
Start By:a. remove final drive planetary carrier assemblies 1. Put the final drive planetary carrier assembly on wood blocks as shown.2. Remove planetary shaft (1) and the retainer ring from the planetary carrier. Remove planetary gear (3) and two spacers (2) from the planetary carrier. 3. Remove two roller bearings (4) and spacer (5) from planetary gear (3).4. Remove the other two planetary gears from the final drive planetary carrier assembly as in Steps 1 through 3. The following steps are for the assembly of the final drive planetary carriers.6. Install two roller bearings (4) and spacer (5) in planetary gear (3).7. Put a spacer (2) on each side of the planetary gear. Put the planetary gear, with spacers, in position in the planetary carrier.8. Install the retainer ring and planetary shaft (1) that holds the planetary gear in position. Turn planetary shaft (1) in the planetary carrier until the flat side of the shaft is toward the outside of the planetary carrier as shown. 9. Install the other two planetary gears in the planetary carriers as in Steps 6 through 8.End By:a. install final drive planetary carrier assemblies
