(2) Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound to the machined surfaces that make contact with the bearings. (3) During assembly, the O-ring seals and the surfaces of the metal seals that contact the O-ring seals must be clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of oil on the mating surfaces of the metal seals before installation. Make sure that the metal seals are installed squarely in the bore. The O-ring seals must not bulge. Also, the O-ring seals must not be twisted. (4) Torque for the two plugs in the cover ... 80 10 N m (60 7 lb ft) (5) After the six spring pins are installed, make two stake marks for each pin. Refer to View A-A for the locations of the stake marks.Use the following procedure to adjust the preload on the bearings.
Place a load (P) of 4000 kg (8800 lb) on the bearings.
Rotate the housing in order to seat the bearings.
Reduce the load (P) to 1000 100 kg (2200 220 lb) on the bearings.
Measure dimension (A).
Measure dimension (B) on the stopper.
Calculate the installation dimension (C) by subtracting dimension (B) from dimension (A). (C=A-B).
Install the stopper to the installation dimension (C) at 0.05 mm ( 0.0020 inch).
Make a stake mark in the flange of the stopper. (6) Install the proper plate for a clearance (X) of 1.5 0.5 mm (0.06 0.02 inch). Refer to Illustration 1.
