Introduction
The oil cooler is mounted beneath the inlet manifold on the right side of the engine.Coolant from the diesel engine cooling system is circulated through the oil cooler and then through the top part of the flywheel housing to the after-cooler prior to entering the cylinder block.The oil enters the oil cooler at the rear, circulates through the cooler and flows out the top into the filter housing, where it circulates through the filters and enters the oil manifold.Removal And Installation
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system and oil cooler.2. Drain the oil from the cooler.
PREPARING TO REMOVE THE OIL COOLER
1-Water outlet pipe. 2-Oil inlet line. 3-Oil outlet line. 4-Inlet manifold front section. 5-Water inlet pipe. 6-Bypass tube.3. Disconnect water inlet pipe (5) from the water pump.4. Use a hoist and sling to remove the oil cooler. Approximate weight 100 lbs. (45,4 kg).
REMOVING THE OIL COOLERDisassembly And Assembly
OIL COOLER DISASSEMBLY
1-Core assembly. 2-Pipe. 3-Water inlet pipe.1. Clean the tubes by passing a rod, having a diameter slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the tubes, through the tubes. If the tubes become damaged, the entire core assembly must be replaced.2. After cleaning, test with 80 to 100 PSI (5,6 to 7,0 kg/cm2) air pressure applied to the oil side of the core, and submerge entire core in water to be sure no leaks are in the core. Operating temperature water will give a more accurate test.3. Install in the reverse order of removal using new gaskets and seals if necessary.
