Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot a high fuel temperature or use this procedure if the following event code is active. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Event Codes" for information about event codes. You must access the engine monitoring system on Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) in order to view the current trip points for these codes. For information on the engine monitoring system, refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Monitoring System".

E223(1) High Gas Temperature The temperature of the gas has exceeded the trip point for the programmed delay time. The code is logged.

High Fuel Supply Temperature
Check for proper operation of the equipment that treats the gas prior to the engine.If a problem is found for the equipment that treats the gas prior to the fuel supply at the engine, repair the equipment.Faulty Temperature Sensor at the Fuel Metering Valve
Measure the temperature of the gas that is entering the fuel metering valve. Compare the measurement to the "Fuel Temperature" parameter that is reported by Cat ET.If the measurement for the temperature is significantly different from the reading on Cat ET, determine the reason for the faulty data from the fuel metering valve.Note: The fuel temperature is sensed by the fuel metering valve and communicated to the ECM via the CAN data link.Perform the necessary repairs.
