Open the access door on the right side of the machine.

Turn the priming pump plunger counterclockwise and pull out the plunger.
Operate the priming pump until the plunger resists operation. This indicates a full filter element.
Push the plunger downward and turn the plunger clockwise in order to lock the plunger.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Remove the plug from the fuel filter base. Release the priming pump plunger and prime the fuel system until a continuous stream of fuel is flowing from the opening. Catch the fuel in a suitable container. Install the plug in the fuel filter base and lock the plunger.
Start the engine. Look for leaks around the filter element. If the engine will not start or the engine misfires, more priming is necessary.

Location of the Fuel Return Manifold
If the engine runs rough after start-up, stop the engine. Loosen the vent plug on the fuel return manifold. The fuel return manifold is located on the upper left rear of the engine.
Release the priming pump plunger and prime the fuel system until a continuous stream of fuel is flowing from the opening. Catch the fuel in a suitable container.
Install the vent plug and lock the plunger.
Start the engine and run the engine at low idle until the engine does not run rough.
Close the access door. Dry Start Priming
