Lower the temperature of bearing cups (14) and (15) .
Install bearing cup (15) in the pinion housing.
Turn the pinion housing and install bearing cup (14) .Note: Allow the bearing cups and the pinion housing to reach a uniform temperature.
Use Tooling (H) to reset the bearing cups, to ensure that the bearing cups are seated against the shoulders of the pinion housing.

Raise the temperature of bearing cone (13). Install bearing (13) on pinion shaft (10) .Note: Allow the bearing cone and the pinion shaft to reach a uniform temperature.
Use a hammer and a punch in order to reset the bearing cone on the pinion shaft.

Lubricate bearing cone (13) with clean oil.
Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to the pinion housing. The weight of the pinion housing is approximately 81 kg (180 lb). Install the pinion housing to pinion shaft (10) .

Raise the temperature of bearing cone (12). Install bearing cone (12) on pinion shaft (10) .
Lubricate bearing cone (12) with clean oil.
Set the pinion bearing preload. Refer to Troubleshooting, Testing, and Adjusting, "Differential Pinion Preload - Adjust".

Use Tooling (D) in order to install lip seal (8) in retainer (6) .Note: The sealing lip must be facing the inside of retainer (6) .
Install O-ring seal (7) to retainer (6) .

Install retainer (6) on the pinion housing.
Install bolts (5) .

Use a suitable lifting device to rotate the carrier on Tooling (A). The weight of the carrier and of the differential assembly is approximately 454 kg (1000 lb).Note: If replacing the pinion housing or carrier housing, install 80 percent of a new shim pack as a starting point for the pinion depth adjustment.
Install original shim pack (3) between the carrier and the pinion housing.

Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to pinion housing (1). The weight of pinion housing (1) is approximately 132 kg (290 lb).
Install O-ring seal (4) in the groove of pinion housing (1) .
Install pinion housing (6) to the carrier.

Note: Make sure that backlash is present before you secure pinion housing (1) to the carrier.Note: Bolts (2) cannot be reused. Always install new bolts.
Install bolts (2). The torque for the bolts is 210 40 N m (155 30 lb ft) plus an additional 120 degrees 10 degrees.
Adjust the differential backlash and the preload of the bearings. Refer to Troubleshooting, Testing, and Adjusting, "Differential Backlash and Bearings - Adjust".

Install bearing locks (17) and (22) .End By: Install the differential and bevel gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Differential and Bevel Gear (Front) - Install" or Disassembly and Assembly, "Differential and Bevel Gear (Rear) - Install".
