The carriage wear pad (1) must be in good condition and there must be contact between the carriage wear pad and the nonrotating part of the carriage (2). The carriage wear pad is adjusted by using shims (3) .If the carriage wear pad is not in contact with the nonrotating part of the carriage, remove cotter pin (4). To take up the clearance, tighten the nut (5) and then back off the nut (5) until the cotter pin can be installed in the next hole.Insert a pry bar between the rotating and nonrotating parts of the carriage that is adjacent to the carriage wear pad. Check the clearance when the rotating part of the carriage is pushed away from the carriage wear pad. To reduce this clearance to zero, install sufficient shims under the carriage wear pad.
