Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Operate the engine until the steering hydraulic oil is warm. Park the machine on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.

Push the button on breaker relief valve (1). Slowly remove cap (2) on the steering hydraulic tank in order to relieve the pressure.
Open hood (3).
Open drain valve (4).
Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container. Close the drain valve.
Remove retaining ring (5) for the filler strainer.
Remove filler strainer (6). Wash the cap and the strainer in clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow the cap and the strainer to dry.
Inspect the seal on the filler cap. Use a new seal if the used seal is damaged.
Install the strainer and the retaining ring for the strainer.
Do not fill the steering hydraulic tank when the engine is running. Discharge from the secondary steering accumulators could overfill the tank when the engine is stopped.
Fill the steering hydraulic tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities". Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".
Use the reading from the upper sight gauge to maintain the steering oil level. When the engine is not running, the oil level should be within the operating range (between the add and full mark) of upper sight gauge (7).
Install the filler cap.
Operate the engine until the steering hydraulic oil is warm. Inspect the machine for leaks and make any necessary repairs.
Stop the engine. Allow the steering accumulators to completely discharge and check the oil level. Use the reading from the upper sight gauge to maintain the steering oil level.
When the engine is stopped, the oil level should be within the operating range of the upper sight gauge. If necessary, add oil.
