23. Use tool (B) to remove rings (43) from piston (45).24. Remove rod pin (44) from the piston, and remove connecting rod (46).25. Remove the plugs from both ends of rod pin (44) if necessary. 26. Remove rod bearings (47) from bearing cap (42) and connecting rod (46).27. Remove bushing (48) from connecting rod (46). 28. Put identification marks on block assemblies (49) and the crankcase for installation purposes. Remove the bolts, and remove block assemblies (49) from the crankcase. 29. Put identification marks on cover (50) and the crankcase for installation purposes. Remove the bolts, and remove cover (50) from the crankcase. 30. Remove seal ring (51) from cover (50). 31. Remove crankshaft (52) from the crankcase. If necessary, use a soft hammer, and hit the splined end of the crankshaft to remove it. 32. Use tooling (C) and a press to remove bearing (53) from the crankshaft. 33. Remove the screws and retainer (54) to remove bearing (55) from the crankcase.Assemble Air Compressor
1. Install bearing (1) in the crankcase. Put retainer (2) in position over the bearing, and install the screws to hold the retainer. Put marks (stake) at three places around each screw. 2. Heat bearing (3) to a maximum temperature of 149°C (300°F). Install bearing (3) on crankshaft (4). 3. Install crankshaft (4) in the crankcase. 4. Install seal ring (5) on cover (6). 5. Install cover (6) and the gasket on the end of the crankcase. 6. Put the gaskets and block assemblies (7) in position on the crankcase. Install the bolts to hold the assemblies in position. 7. Put rod bearings (8) in position on the bearing cap and connecting rod (9).8. Use tool group (A) and a press to install a new bushing in connecting rod (9). Make sure the oil hole in the bushing and the oil hole in the connecting rod are in alignment. The bushing must be made larger with a reamer after it is installed. The finished diameter of the bushing must be 13.495 to 13.503 mm (.5313 to .5316 in.). 9. If necessary, install new plugs in both ends of rod pin (11).10. Put connecting rod (9) in position in piston assembly (10), and install rod pin (11) to hold these together. 11. Use tool (B) to install piston rings (12) and oil rings (13) on the piston assembly as shown. The rings must be installed with the bevel or pip mark (if any) toward the top of the piston. Check all groove and ring gap clearances. The correct groove clearance for compression rings (12) is 0.05 to 0.10 mm (.002 to .004 in.). The correct groove clearance for oil rings (13) is .089 to .140 mm (.0035 to .0055 in.). The correct piston ring gap clearance (in cylinder) is .127 to .381 mm (.0050 to .0150 in.). 12. Remove the bearing cap from the connecting rod, and put clean engine oil on the piston rings, but not on the connecting rod bearing. Turn the crankshaft
