3406E (1LW) Truck Engines (475/500 Horsepower Multi-Torque For Top 2 Gears Only) This MAR98 software is for field rerate and applies to the 1998 3406E (1LW) Truck Engine only. These two software ratings were released to provide a 475/500 horsepower Multi-Torque with an upper torque of 1750 lb ft in the top tow gears only. The software allows the ECM to compare vehicle speed to engine speed to determine the ratio for the top two gears and apply the upper torque and horsepower accordingly. This software can be used with any style transmission.
A new parameter has been added to the "Engine/Gear Parameter" section that is called "Eaton Top 2 Override with Cruise Switch". This parameter is only applicable if the truck has an Eaton Top 2 Transmission. The default setting for this parameter is "No" which means that if Eaton Top 2 is the transmission style, then the normal Auto shifting that occurs in the top 2 gears will operate as it has in the past. If this parameter is set to "Yes", then the cruise switch override is enabled. This will allow the Eaton Top 2 auto-shifting only when the Cruise Control On/Off switch is ON., regardless of whether cruise control is active or not. When the Cruise Control On/Off switch is OFF, Eaton Top 2 gear shifting must be done manually. Switching the Cruise On/Off switch from ON to OFF while in one of the Top 2 Gears will Hold that gear until the switch is returned to the ON position. If the transmission is manually shifted out of the gear being Held, the Eaton Top 2 mode will be disabled (because the switch is in the OFF position). Currently, this feature is only available in these two MAR98 software files. Electronic Technician (ET) version 2.2 or later must be used to program this new feature. These files are available for download and the Flash File Cross Reference in the FIND system has been updated.
