This special instruction is utilized for cleaning ports, passages, and components of the valve body and the front head in order to prevent contamination. Contaminates prevent the hammer from operating properly.Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.Safety Section
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove grease flitting (4) and plugs (3) from valve body (1).
Remove valve body (1) and carrier from front head (2). Refer to Step 10 through Step 11 of the Hydraulic Hammer - Disassemble procedure of the Disassembly and Assembly Manual in order to remove valve body (1) and the carrier.

Remove plug (3) from front head (2).

Remove piston and piston sleeve. Refer to Steps 13 through Step 15 of the Hydraulic Hammer - Disassemble procedure of the Disassembly and Assembly Manual in order to remove the piston and sleeve.
Remove main valve and valve sleeve. Refer to Step 18 through Step 20 of the Hydraulic Hammer - Disassemble procedure of the Disassembly and Assembly Manual in order to remove the main valve and valve sleeve.
Remove lowering bushing. Refer to the Tool Bushing - Remove and Install - Lower procedure of the Disassembly and Assembly Manual in order to remove the lowering bushing.
Remove the upper bushing. Refer to the Tool Bushing - Remove and Install - Upper procedure of the Disassembly and Assembly Manual in order to remove the upper bushing.Procedure to Clean Hammer Components
Verify that the hammer has been disassembled completely in order to make all ports and passages accessible.
Use brake cleaner (A) in order to flush contaminants from all ports and passages of valve body (1) and front head (2).
Once brake cleaner (A) has been applied, use paper towel (B) in order to wipe away any contaminants.
Use brake cleaner (A) in order to remove contaminants from all internal components that were removed from valve body (1) and front head (2). Valve sleeve must be removed in order to clean the bore in the front head.
Once brake cleaner (A) has been applied, use paper towel (B) in order to wipe away any contaminants.
Repeat Step 2 through Step 5 until paper towel (B) is free of color and contaminants.
Verify that all components have been thoroughly cleaned and are free of contaminants before proceeding to "Procedure to Assemble the Hammer".Procedure to Assemble the
