Typical Front Wheel GpThe bearing cone (B), bearing cone (C), bearing cup (D), and bearing cup (E) in the front wheel group may fail on the machines listed above. The failure may be due to contamination, low viscosity, incorrect preload, application load, operating conditions (ie. multiple/tight switchbacks), or bearing quality.Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem. In the event of failure, replace the failed parts with new same parts.

C 212-5026     Bearing Cone    Caterpillar recommends the following actions to minimize risk of failure and contingent damage:Monitor magnetic plugs at every 250 hours and monitor Schedule Oil Sampling (SOS) at every 500 hours. Use Caterpillar Final Drive and Axle Oil (FDAO) or equivalent. FDAO has an additive package with superior scuffing resistance to TO4 oil.First Choice - Caterpillar FDAO of the recommended viscosity grade.Second Choice - commercial oil of the recommended viscosity grade that meets the Caterpillar FD-1 specifications.
