G3516 (3RC, 8LD, 4EK) EnginesDescription of Change: A new solenoid valve group is available for use on these engines. The diaphragm in the new solenoid valve group is made from Viton material. The Viton material is less likely to react with the chemicals and higher temperatures that are common in landfill/digester applications. The Viton material also is more resistant to age hardening at higher temperatures. A diaphragm kit is available that provides a diaphragm from the Viton material. This kit can be used to install a new Viton material diaphragm in existing solenoid valve groups.
Adaptable To: The new 150-1769 Solenoid Valve Group (gas shutoff) is available for these engines. The 148-6512 Diaphragm Kit is available and provides a Viton material diaphragm for existing solenoid valve groups. See Solenoid Valve Assembly for the correct procedures for installing the diaphragm kit. The 148-6512 Diaphragm Kit is NOT to be used in natural gas applications. The Viton material diaphragm looses flexibility when the operating temperature drops below -4°C (25°F). The use of the diaphragm in the kit could result in unacceptable shut down characteristics in unprotected cold weather applications. Solenoid Valve Assembly
Identification of Solenoid Valve Group (gas shutoff) components.Solenoid base (1). Housing (2).Bonnet gasket (3). Bonnet screw (4).Valve bonnet (5). Core/Diaphragm subassembly (6). Body gasket (7).Valve seat (8).Valve body (9). 1. Lubricate the bonnet gasket (3) and body gasket (7) with a light coat of DOW CORNING® 200 Fluid Lubricant or an equivalent high-grade silicone fluid.2. Apply a light coat of REM Grit TFL 50® Dry Lubricant to: * Valve seat (8).* Valve body (9) flange where the core/diaphragm sub assembly (6) contacts the valve body and body gasket.* Internal surface of the valve bonnet (5) where the core/diaphragm sub assembly (6) the bonnet when the valve is in the energized (open) position. If the solenoid valve group has been disassembled for inspection and cleaning only, and a Rebuild Kit is not being installed, lubricate the following with a light coat of REM Grit TFL 50® Dry Lubricant: * Both sides of the diaphragm.* Main disc at the base of the core/diaphragm sub assembly (6).* Pilot disc at the base of the core assembly.
