TH35-E81 TZM1-UPThis document is a reference and guide for the application and installation (A and I) of Caterpillar transmissions used in the petroleum industry. The two transmission models that are listed above are frequently used in oil field service applications. Applications include work over rigs pumping units and other oil service power train requirements. The transmission models that are described in this guide are used with diesel engines that range from 300 hp to 550 hp. The Caterpillar engines that are used for illustration purposes in this guide will be the C9 with the TH31-61 transmission and the C11, C13, and C15 with the TH35-E81 transmission. Both transmission models mount to engines with SAE 1 dry flywheel housings.Notice
The mechanical and electrical Application and Installation Guides are stored and printed from an electronic file. These files may be revised periodically. To ensure that your hard copy of the Special Instructions is the current version of the Application and Installation Guide, consult your local Caterpillar Representative. All paper copies are uncontrolled.Caterpillar reserves the right to update, improve, and or change the design of the TH31 and TH35Transmissions. This Special Instruction will assist OEM installation engineers and assemblers with Caterpillar's recommended procedures for the initial installation of the TH31-E61 and the TH35-E81 OEM Transmissions.
This Special Instruction will assist field engineers and operators with the TH31-E61 and the TH35-E81 OEM Transmissions in oil well service applications.Nomenclature
The TH31-E61 and TH35-E81nomenclature covers a broad range of transmission products with the same clutch sizes. Therefore, it becomes important for the owners, users, and service personnel to use the correct TH31-E61 and TH35-E81 arrangement numbers. All TH31-E61 and TH35-E81 transmissions have the same serial number prefix S/N:LWC but there are a variety of options within the serial number. Options include but are not limited to the following options: oil level sensor, PTOs, sumps, filters, yokes and flex plates. The Caterpillar Dealer will need the prefix and all of the serial number to properly identify a particular transmission.Model: TH31-E61T - TransmissionH - Derivative of a Caterpillar hauling version31 - Predominant clutch diameter in cmE - Engine mounted arrangement6 - Number of
