Certain Ratchet Pullers need to be removed fromdealers inventory, work areas and toolboxes. Some of these pullers mayhave an improper crimp on the ferrule that attaches the cable to the bottomhook. Pullers with this improper crimping condition may unexpectedly releasethe load at less than rated capacity. The Caterpillar part number affectedis 8S9906 Ratchet Pullers with a serial number ending in "C00" through"L00". The serial number is located on a metal tab riveted to the framejust under the top hook.ACTION REQUIREDRemove all 8S9906 Ratchet Pullers, purchasedbetween January 2000 and April 2001, from parts stock and any that maybe in use. Also, the dealer should post the attached notice on the Partscounters throughout the dealership. To ensure that these parts are notreused or salvaged, all parts removed should be cut in half before scrapping. The updated 8S9906 Ratchet Pullers have3 crimps (instead of 2) at the hook on the cable assembly. Reworked assembliesalso have a one inch, light purple sticker on the frame of the unit witha date of March 2001. Any Ratchet Pullers without a serial number are notaffected.SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES
