This Program must be administered as soon as possible.When reporting the repair, use "PI31603" as the Part Number and "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Codeand "T" as the SIMS Description code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI31603" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number,"96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

PROBLEM
The secondary speed control potentiometer needs to be replaced on certain 3606, 3608, 3612, 3616, C280-6, C280-8, C280-12, and C280-16 EUI marine propulsion engines. The existing potentiometer may cause a secondary speed control fault code.

In order to allow equitable parts availability to all participating dealers, please limit your initial parts order to not exceed 40% of dealership population. This is an initial order recommendation only, and the ultimate responsibility for ordering the total number of parts needed to satisfy the program lies with the dealer.
ACTION REQUIRED
For engines with the 235-5195 or the 289-0567 Customer Interface Panel:
1. Locate the potentiometer in the panel (Image1).
2. Remove the bracket.
CAUTION: Ensure standard safety precautions are taken while using a heat source / soldering iron on or near the panel.
3. Heat the solder and remove the three wires from the potentiometer.
4. Remove the 127-9069 2K ohm potentiometer from the bracket and replace with the 122-9458 1K ohm potentiometer.
5. Re-install the potentiometer to the bracket and re-solder the three wires.
6. Re-install the bracket.
For engines with the 179-8801 Marine Monitoring System Panel and the 264-9888 MMS2 - EUI Conversion:
1. Locate the potentiometer in the MMS panel (Image2 & Image3).
CAUTION: Ensure standard safety precautions are taken while using a heat source / soldering iron on or near the panel.
2. Heat the solder and remove the three wires from the potentiometer.
3. Remove the 127-9069 2K ohm potentiometer from the panel and replace with the 122-9458 1K ohm potentiometer.
4. Re-solder the three wires.
