WASHER-THRUST 8D5214 - Caterpillar

Use the following procedure is used in order to clean the (NOx Reduction System) NRS exhaust cooler if a large accumulation of soot is observed.

Remove the NRS exhaust cooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly for more information.

(1) NRS exhaust cooler
(2) Hose clamp
(3) 9U-7191 Plastic Cap
Install cap with hose clamp on one end of the NRS exhaust cooler in order to prevent the loss of the cleaning solution.
Fill the NRS exhaust cooler with 269-8297 Cleaner. Refer to Table 2 for the proper capacity of the NRS exhaust cooler. Note: The cleaner must remain in the cooler for approximately 30 minutes for the cleaner to be effective.

Drain the cleaner from the cooler.
Remove the hose clamp and the cap.

Direction of spray from the steam cleaner
(4) Outlet of the exhaust cooler
(5) Inlet of the exhaust cooler
Use a steam cleaner in order to remove the soot buildup from within the cooler. Alternate the direction of spray from the steam cleaner from the inlet of the exhaust cooler to the outlet of the exhaust cooler. Repeat these actions until the water that exits the exhaust cooler is clear. Refer to Illustration 2.
Direct compressed air through each end of the exhaust cooler in order to remove moisture.
Install the NRS exhaust cooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly for more information.
