Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Machine Preparation for Disassembly and Assembly" for the proper procedure.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Extend the blade to the right side of the machine. Remove cotter pin (1). Remove pin (2) that holds the sideshift cylinder to the bracket on the right side of the blade.

Attach Tool (B) to the blade, as shown. Position a suitable lifting device to Tool (B). Secure the suitable lifting device to a hoist in order to support the blade while you move the blade. The weight of the blade is 641 kg (1413 lb).
Retract the rod of the sideshift cylinder. Place a suitable spacer (X) between the cylinder rod and the cylinder bracket. The minimum size of the spacer should be 152 mm (6 inch) wide, 152 mm (6 inch) high, and 1.5 m (5.00 ft) long.
Extend the sideshift cylinder in order to push the blade free of the bracket that is on the left side of the machine. Place suitable supports under the blade. Lower the blade until the blade rests on the supports.

Remove bolt (6), the nut, the washer, and the clip. Remove four bolts (3), four washers, the spacers, and the mounting brackets (4) from the guard (5) that is on the right side of the machine.
