Information:

V2.0 Hardware, (9X-5402) VIMS Internal Memory Backup Battery location
V3.0 Hardware, (101-1785) VIMS Internal Memory Backup Battery location A long life three volt lithium battery is contained in the VIMS main module. The battery allows the main module memory to hold data when power is removed from the main module (OPEN disconnect switch). The battery also retains the time and date functions.
All on-board stored data (not source or configuration software) is retained in volatile memory. This type of memory will lose data if power is removed. Any time the disconnect switch is ON, the machine electrical system will power the main module and allow the stored data to be retained. The backup battery takes over and retains stored data only when the disconnect switch is open.
The backup battery also retains the date and time functions in the main module when the key start switch is in the OFF position, whether the disconnect switch is ON or OFF.
Battery Replacement Recommendation:
On machines in service the backup battery is expected to have a life of approximately five years (V3.0 hardware). The battery should be replaced every five years (V3.0 hardware). With V2.0 hardware replace the battery every two years. In climates where the ambient temperature are CONTINUOUSLY in the range of about 0 to -40 °C (32 to -40 °F), replace V3.0 batteries every 2-3 years (V2.0 hardware every year).
Backup battery failure causes an operator warning and resulting service code and event to be stored. During battery failure, if the key start switch is put in the OFF position and the disconnect switch is OPEN, loss of the stored data can occur within several hours or less. Reason is the lithium battery holds a constant voltage during its life, then due to chemical break-down (aging) will die very quickly. When this warning occurs, immediately download stored data, then replace backup battery without turning key start switch or disconnect switch to OFF.
The 9X-5402 Battery is used in V2.0 main modules (3E-3666, 115-0648, 118-9636 and 124-6134 Electronic Control Group). The 101-1785 battery is used in V3.0 main modules (130-5131 Electronic Control Group). When replacing the 9X-5402 Battery, remove the insulating sleeve (if present) from the battery before installing. On V2.0 Hardware (only), if the internal battery has been replaced while the main module is disconnected from supply voltage (disconnect switch open), at least 60 seconds must elapse before communications can be established with a service tool (VIMS-PC). Battery Replacement Procedure:
If the warning is present for B/U BATT LO, DO NOT turn the key start switch OFF. Go directly to STEP 3.STEP 1. Stop the machine and shut down the engine. The disconnect switch must remain
