Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) 1 Preparation for Test
Warm the hydraulic oil up to 65° 5°C (149° 9°F).
Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel. Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature. Place the transmission direction control switch in the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and put chocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.
Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the machine.Perform the Test

Run the engine at HIGH IDLE.
Open Cat ET and check the rpm of the cooling fan.Note: A complex control logic goes into calculating the fan speed. Creating the exact machine conditions may be difficult. The fan speed should be close to the chart range, but the fan speed may vary.
Verify that photo pickup (D2) is on the fan. If the photo pickup (D2) is not on the fan, then install photo pickup (D2) onto the fan.
Use Multitach Tool Gp (D1) the timing light and check the actual speed of the fan. Compare the actual speed to the Cat ET reading for speed being checked. If the two speeds are the same, then consider the test complete.
Remove all test equipment.
