Remove the crankshaft rear seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal - Remove".
Remove the electric starting motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electric Starter Motor - Remove and Install".
Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".
Remove the engine speed sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Speed Sensor - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Use Tooling (B) or a suitable block to support the rear of the cylinder block in order to remove flywheel housing (1). The weight of the engine is approximately 1814 kg (4000 lb).

Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device on flywheel housing (1). The weight of flywheel housing (1) is approximately 105 kg (230 lb).
Remove bolts (2). Remove flywheel housing (1) from the cylinder block.
Remove gasket (3) from flywheel housing (1).Installation Procedure

Thoroughly clean flywheel housing (1) and the rear face of the cylinder block.
Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device on flywheel housing (1). The weight of flywheel housing (1) is approximately 105 kg (230 lb).
Install gasket (3) on the dowel pins of the cylinder block. Apply Tooling (C) to the bottom of gasket (3) in order to fill the space at the cylinder block, flywheel housing (1), and the engine oil pan.
Position flywheel housing (1) and install bolts (2).

Tighten the bolts, as follows:
In a numerical sequence, tighten Bolt (1) through Bolt (24) to a torque of 40 10 N m (30 7 lb ft).
In a numerical sequence, again tighten Bolt (1) through Bolt (9) to a torque of 135 20 N m (100 15 lb ft).
In a numerical sequence, again tighten Bolt (10) through Bolt (24) to a torque of 55 10 N m (40 7 lb ft).
Remove Tooling (A).End By:
Install the engine speed sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Speed Sensor - Remove and Install".
Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".
Install the electric starting motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install".
Install the crankshaft rear seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal - Install".
