START BY:a. remove service and parking brake **This operation is in the Vehicle Systems Disassembly And Assembly section. 1. Install tooling (A) with one 3/4"-10 NC x 2 1/2 in. (64 mm) long bolt (2) with one nut and one 5/8"-11 NC x 1 1/2 in. (38 mm) long bolt (4) as shown.2. Fasten a hoist to tooling (A), and remove the axle housing nuts. 3. Use brake line guard (1) as shown to lift brake release line (3) out of the way of the nuts that hold the axle housing to the differential housing assembly. The weight of the rear axle housing is 667 kg (1470 lb.).4. Remove rear axle housing (5). 5. Remove O-ring seal (6) from the inner side of the axle housing.Install Rear Axle Housing
1. Make sure all the contact surfaces of the differential housing assembly and the rear axle housing are free of oil and grease before assembly.2. Install the O-ring seal on the inner side of the axle housing. Put a thin layer of lubricant on the seal.3. Install tooling (A) as shown with one 3/4"-10 NC 2 1/2 (64 mm) in. long bolt with one nut (3) and one 5/8"-11 NC x 1/2 (38 mm) in. long bolt (4).4. Lift brake release line (1), and make a support for it with brake line guard (2) as shown.5. Fasten a hoist to tool (A), and install the rear axle housing in position on the studs of the differential housing assembly.6. Put 4S9416 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of the nuts and on the washers.7. Install the nuts and washers on the studs, and tighten the nuts to a torque of 710 25 N m (525 18 lb.ft.).8.
