Removal Procedure For The Front Idler and Recoil Spring On CIPI Undercarriage Arrangements Which Are Based On 325 and 325B Track Type Excavators
Start By:
Separate the track assemblies. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Separate" in this manual.
Use the hydraulic track adjuster to extend the front idler and the recoil spring in the track roller frame as far as possible.

Use a pry bar in order to move the front idler and recoil spring (1) partially out of the track roller frame, as shown.
Fasten lifting straps and a suitable lifting device to the front idler and recoil spring (1), as shown. Slide the front idler and the recoil spring out of the track roller frame as one unit. The weight of the unit is approximately 340 kg (750 lb).

Typical example
Turn the front idler and the recoil spring around 180 degrees. Leave the suitable lifting device attached. Install the front idler partially into the track roller frame. Leave four bolts (3) exposed.
Loosen, but do not remove four bolts (3) at this time.
Remove the front idler and the recoil spring from the track roller frame.
Support the front idler and the recoil spring with a suitable lifting device. Remove four bolts (3) that hold the unit together. Separate recoil spring (4) from front idler (2). The weight of the front idler is approximately 181 kg (400 lb). The weight of the recoil spring is approximately 159 kg (350 lb).
