Engine News, SEBD9972, 13 June 2014, "A New Outlet Elbow Is Used on Certain Commercial Engines". Disregard the previous article, refer to the article that follows.Description of Change: The new outlet elbow has an improved casting design for controlled quality.Adaptable To: The 438-8638 Outlet Elbow replaces the former 4W-2232 Outlet Elbow on the machines that are listed above.The 438-8638 Outlet Elbow is adaptable to the machines back to first production.Note: Reassemble using the new 438-8638 Outlet Elbow with a 9M-1974 Hard Washer on each of the new 6V-3940 Bolts. Also, use a new 3P-1156 O-Ring Seal. Note: Tighten each bolt in multiple steps allowing the elbow to fit squarely with the block and pump. Finish by tightening the bolts to a torque of 28 7 N m (21 5 lb ft). Reinstall the oil pan and refill the engine with oil. Start engine and verify oil pressure.This change is effective on the serial numbers listed in Table 1.
