Earlier Shown1. Install the O-ring seal on bearing cage (1). Put a small amount of oil on the O-ring seal.2. Install bearing cage (1) in the case with shim packs (6) and with the O-ring seal. Tighten bolts (5).3. Remove plugs (3) and (4) from bearing cage.4. Place the winch on its side with bearing cage (1) up.5. Install a dial indicator with a long stem through the hole for plug (4). Adjust the indicator so that the stem contacts the end of gear (2).6. Install a 1/2"-13 NC x 2.5 in. bolt in the end of gear (2) through the hole for plug (3). 7. Move gear (2) up with a pry bar under the bolt head and note the dial indicator movement (bearing end play). The end play must be 0.08 to 0.13 mm (.003 to .005 in).8. If the bearing end play is not correct, either add or subtract shims (6) until it is correct.9. If it is necessary to add or subtract shims (6) in order to correct the bearing end play, install the dial indicator and bolt and measure the end play again. The end play must be 0.08 to 0.13 mm (.003 to .005 in).10. When the bearing end play is correct, remove the dial indicator and bolt, and install the plugs.11. Return the winch to its upright position.
