Schematic of the "Winch Spool Out" solenoid
The CID 1885 is associated with the winch spool solenoid. The FMI 05 diagnostic code is recorded when the Implement ECM reads the current of the solenoid as being below normal.The possible causes are listed below:
There is an open in the circuit.
The solenoid has failed.
The ECM has failed. This condition is unlikely.System Response:
A level 2 warning will be generated. The "Winch Spool Out" function will not work but the function is still enabled.Note: The following procedure can create numerous related diagnostic codes. When all harnesses are reconnected, the related diagnostic codes will be shown as being not active. Clear all related diagnostic codes after this procedure is completed.Note: Ensure that the CID 1885 FMI 05 diagnostic code for the solenoid is active. Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. DO NOT start the engine.
Disconnect the machine harness from the solenoid.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, place a jumper wire from contact 1 wire (J914-PU(Purple)) to contact 2 wire (H802-GY(Grey)).
Observe the status of the diagnostic code. Expected Result:The CID 1885 FMI 05 diagnostic code is no longer active. A CID 1885 FMI 06 diagnostic code is active after the jumper wire is connected.Results:
OK - The CID 1885 FMI 05 diagnostic code is no longer active. A CID 1885 FMI 06 diagnostic code is active after the jumper wire is connected. The solenoid has failed.Repair: Repeat this test "CHECK THE SOLENOID" in order to verify that the solenoid has failed. Replace the solenoid. Calibrate the solenoids of the ripper. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Calibration" procedure in the service manual for your machine.STOP
NOT OK - The CID 1885 FMI 05 diagnostic code remains active. The jumper wire does not affect the status of the diagnostic code. The solenoid is not causing the problem. Proceed to test step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE SOLENOID CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the J1 machine harness connector from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, the jumper wire remains installed.
At J1 machine harness connector, measure the resistance from contact J1-59 wire (J914-PU(Purple)) to J1-60 wire (H802-GY(Grey)). Expected Result:The resistance should be less than 5.0 ohms.Results:
YES - The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to test step 3.
NO - The resistance measurement is NOT correct. There is an open circuit in the machine harness.Repair: The open is in the wire for the solenoid signal or in wire (H802-GY(Grey)) of the machine harness. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE STATUS OF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE
Inspect the contacts and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Clear all inactive diagnostic codes.
Operate the machine.
Stop the machine and place the parking brake switch in the ON position.
