Remove the crankshaft pulley.
Remove the front housing.Note: Refer to Specifications, ""Engine Design"" for non-specified engine torques.
Drain engine oil. Refer to Operations and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

Rotate engine until timing marks are aligned with fuel injection pump gear (1) and idler gear (2). Align idler gear (2) with camshaft gear (3) and crankshaft gear (4).

Remove bolts (5) and idler gear shaft (6). Remove idler gear (2). Note: Do Not rotate engine crankshaft after idler gear has been removed.

Using Tooling (A) and a suitable press, remove bearing (7) from idler gear (2) .Installation Procedure

Using Tooling (A) and a suitable press to press bearing (7) into idler gear (2) .Note: Make sure that the lube hole in bearing (7) lines up with lube hole (8) in gear (2).

Apply engine oil on idler gear shaft (6) and bearing (7) upon installation. Install gear (2) and idler gear shaft (6). Make sure that all three alignment marks are lined up with all gears. Install bolts (5). End By:
Install the front housing.
Install crankshaft pulley.
