Removal Procedure
Start By:
Purge the air from the air tanks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Tanks (Brake) - Purge".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from removing hoses or fittings in a pressure system.Failure to relieve pressure can cause personal injury.Do not remove or disconnect hoses or fittings until all pressure in the air system has been relieved.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Drain the cooling system to a level below the air compressor. Drain the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

Disconnect hose assemblies (2), (3), and (4) from air compressor (1). Install caps and plugs to all openings in order to avoid system contamination.

Disconnect tube assembly (5) from air compressor (1).

Remove nuts (9) from air compressor (1).
Use two people in order to slide air compressor (1) and the integral seal off the studs and away from the engine. The weight of air compressor (1) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb). Note: Refer to Air Compressor, REG00914, "Disassembly and Assembly" for the correct procedure to disassemble the air compressor and assemble the air compressor.
