Removal Procedure
At operating temperature the implement hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns.To prevent possible injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic system before hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Lower the scraper bowl to the ground and engage the parking brake. Chock the wheels in order to prevent the machine from moving.
Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the oil system.

Loosen two retaining nuts (1) and disconnect two hoses (2) from steering cylinder (3) .

Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to steering cylinder (3) . Remove six bolts (4) and two plates (5) from steering cylinder (3) . Remove pin (6) from steering cylinder (3) .

Remove grease fitting (7) from the pin.

Remove grease fitting (8) from pin (9) . Remove three bolts (10) and plate (11) from link (12) . Remove pin (9) from the steering link assembly. Remove steering cylinder (3) from the machine. The steering cylinder weighs 54 kg (120 lb) .Installation Procedure
Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to steering cylinder (3) . Install steering cylinder (3) to the machine. Install pin (9) to the steering link assembly. Install grease fitting (8) to pin (9) . Install three bolts (10) and plate (11) to link (12) .

Install grease fitting (7) to the pin.

Install pin (6) to steering cylinder (3) . Install six bolts (4) and two plates (5) to steering cylinder (3) .

Connect two hoses (2) to steering cylinder (3) . Tighten two retaining nuts (1) .
