Information:
8. Remove rear differential oil level plug. 9. Fill rear differential slowly. Fill through final drive fill plug opening, to bottom of differential oil level plug opening.10. Clean and install rear differential oil level plug. 11. Fill each rear and front final drive to the bottom of the fill plug openings. See "Refill Capacities."12. Clean and install all final drive fill plugs.(32)Brake Accumulator
Your Caterpillar dealer is equipped to measure the accumulator gas precharge pressure. Use only dry nitrogen gas for recharging.(33)Engine Valve Lash
The valve clearance is 0.38 0.08 mm (.015 .003 in) for the inlet and 0.76 0.08 mm (.030 .003 in) for the exhaust valves. If the valve clearance is within 0.76 mm ( .003 inch) of the nominal clearance given, adjustment is not required. If the clearance is not within these limits, adjust the valves. See the Service Manual for valve adjusting procedures.
With engine stopped and cold, inspect and adjust the bridge and valve adjustment. Always turn flywheel in direction of normal rotation.
(34)Cooling System
Changing Antifreeze Solution
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level ONLY after the engine has been stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your hand.Remove the filler cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
If machine is to be stored in, or shipped to, an area with below freezing temperatures; the cooling system must either be protected to the lowest expected ambient temperature, or drained completely.
When permanent antifreeze and water solutions are used in the cooling system, the solution should be drained and replaced every 2000 service hours or 1 year. However, when additions of conditioner are made to the cooling system every 250 service hours or monthly, it is not necessary to drain and refill yearly. The antifreeze change period can be extended to 4000 service hours or 2 years.
Do not use Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner with Dowtherm 209 full-fill coolant.
Add .5 liter (1 pint) of Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner, or equivalent, per 15 liters (4 U.S. gallons) of coolant to give a 3% concentration of coolant conditioner to the cooling system. 1. Loosen filler cap slowly to release pressure, and remove cap. 2. Remove cooling system drain valve plug, open valve and allow coolant to drain.3. Close coolant drain valve. Install drain valve plug.4. Mix antifreeze solution to provide protection to the lowest expected ambient temperature. Do not completely fill cooling system. Allow for addition of Caterpillar Cooling System conditioner, or equivalent, so that the cooling system will have a 3% concentration of coolant conditioner.5. To help avoid air locks, add coolant slowly, at 20 liters (5 U.S. gallons) per minute or less, to above level indicator plate in the bottom of fill pipe.6. Add antifreeze solution. See "Refill Capacities." Add 4.5 liters (9.5 pints) of Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner or equivalent.7. Start and run engine with filler cap removed. Allow coolant
